The Protectors Season 2 Episode 22: Shadbolt

The Protectors_Shadbolt Title Shot

Harry is on his way back to London from Edinburgh by train. Unbeknownst to Harry, he is sitting a couple of carriages away from a hired assassin that is out to kill Harry. When confronted by this assassin, Harry is in the fight of his life. Shadbolt, the arrogant hired gun, finds Harry a difficult challenge which becomes a battle of the brains as well as the body.

Personal Synopsis

Tom Bell plays the cocky hitman who has been sent to kill Harry. Of course this goes against what this show is about (Harry) so the threat is not viable. This episode, however, does play out the exchanges between the hitman and his target. A battle of wits will hold Harry’s position firm and the struggle is merely an inconvenience. These later episodes are getting better, its a shame these shows did not start the second season.

The Protectors Season 2 Episode 21: Trial

The Protectors_Trial Title Shot

A young man is on trial for the death of a policeman. The judge presiding over the trial begins his verdict but suddenly falls ill. The father of one of the men on trial, named Arthur Gordon, is missing and has not been taking this trial very well, in fact attempted to handle the judge roughly. Harry is fully aware of the mental state of Arthur and is worried about what he is capable of doing. His torture mind isn’t able to deal with his son on trial and must do something about it but what is he capable of.

Personal Synopsis

A fascinating episode of a fathers love combined with an unstable mind. A parent would want to save their child from trouble but to what extent are we allowed to go. To wilfully obstruct justice is not going to help the matter. I feel this episode is a powerful one about the depressing and unimaginable experience of watching a son or daughter be on trial.

The Protectors Season 2 Episode 20: Route 27

The Protectors_Route 27 Title Shot

A man is found in a city dump but luckily saved by the bullet-proof vest he wore, the other body found wasn’t so lucky. It is Harry Rule and the police have put a security detail on his hospital room. Harry calls the Contessa for help because he is in danger. He was on the trail of a heroine smuggling group when he was shot and he has some information on the whereabouts of 40kg. of heroine. Harry is dead set on exposing this drug smuggling group so he needs a smaller police presence than is normally needed and instead will use the Contessa. A bit of icing sugar and away he goes.

Personal Synopsis

Drug smuggling in Copenhagen, a story that could go anywhere. Harry becomes the ambassador/vigilante for a grieving father who lost his son to drug addiction. An episode where Harry’s tougher than nails character shows his human side, and small parts in Danish. I enjoyed the episode and laughed at the silly somewhat unimpressive drug lord.

The Protectors Season 2 Episode 19: The Tiger and the Goat

The Protectors_The Tiger and the Goat Title Shot

The Contessa is called to a lonely house out in the English countryside, and almost immediately realized that the intentions of this meeting were not for what she thought. She has been “summoned” to be used by the British Intelligence to weed out an old friend of hers and she is to be used as bait to catch a supposed assassin. The game is set to capture the assassin and the Contessa is anticipating the surveillance will save her from danger. Gunshots ring out and the truth is to be told.

Personal Synopsis

A great episode of espionage and the fallout of wanting to quit the biz. A friend of the Contessa’s wants to stop his spying ways and live a normal life but the head of his department could not allow David Barsella a chance to expose the horrible things done under the name of security. Harry Rule does not make an appearance in this episode and it so happens that this is best episode of the second season so far.

The Protectors Season 2 Episode 18: Burning Bush

The Protectors_Burning Bush Title Shot

Salvation is in resolution. A young lady cries out in the spirit as the christian group around her joins in on the spirits visit. A worried father speaks with Harry about his concerns for his daughter whom has been involved in a christian community. His concerns are for her health and considering she is wealthy, there is worry about who may want to use her for that money. Harry works his way into the community to find out what is actually happening.  His suspicions are strong and there is someone else watching.  But why?

Personal Synopsis

Supernatural experiences often offer a humorous view into the strange and this episode reinforces the oddities. This is one of the stronger episodes in this second series. The story allows for some great performances by the cast and they do just that.  As the show plays out it is realised that this will border on the reality and the supernatural up to the point of not knowing what has transpired.
