The Protectors Season 2 Episode 8: Wam-Part 1

The Protectors_Wam pt1 Title Shot

A beautiful day in the mountains in Salzburg with a trip up the gondola to see the scenery. All while Harry is hired to check up on a clients daughter whom he thinks is getting into some trouble. Following her only adds to the mystery as her behavior does not look like a typical traveller as she heads to Salzburg. Meanwhile the gondola has come into some trouble and the authorities have been notified that this in no ordinary maintenance issue.  WAM is on.

Personal Synopsis

Part 1 of a 2 part episode, This setup episode shows a young lady obviously mixed up in something. Salzburg is her destination, which looks great, her intentions are still unknown and the Protectors appear to be stumped.  The accomplice in this episode so far has yet to be important except for his ridiculous hippy outfit but I expect that to change. The tension is growing as I wonder where this episode is going.

The Protectors Season 2 Episode 7: Goodbye George

The Protectors_Goodbye George Title Shot

Casper has left the family business to pursue a career as a painter in Venice. His father finds something suspicious about his recent letters home, missing references to a George that littered his previous letters. The Contessa is asked to investigate this “fathers intuition”. Come to find out that the money is being sent to a charity in Venice or it seems that way. A meeting with a detective also looking for George furthers the seriousness of this disappearance. Danger awaits as the Contessa gets closer to the answers.

Personal Synopsis

Venice does seem to be a regular feature in Season 2 and this episode is one of the highlights for time travel sightseeing. The episode is a classic blackmail story of a rich man being used for his money but with a twist. This is only show where it only features Nyree as the Protectors and though she is a decent actress the show did not overwhelm me. The climax/finale was far too quick and the last scene was just cheezy.

The police are hounding Harry because the evidence points to his guilt but he knows he is being framed. Further evidence found through Harry’s house and clothes paint him as a criminal. After being called to the airport by Foster, Harry is knock out unconscious and wakes up on an airplane. Harry is left stranded in an airplane about 4000 feet in the air after Foster jumps out of the plane, as the last stage in the elaborate plan of revenge by Foster. Harry is walked through the landing of the plane which he does but right into the hands of the police.

Personal Synopsis

A wonderful story of blackmail and revenge. I was actually surprised by the depth of writing in this episode. The episode is well acted by the team of the Protectors and Derren Nesbitt.  I found the story lacking of credibility especially the skill behind the blackmail but an original complex story of blackmail. Loved it.

The Protectors Season 1 Episode 12: Triple Cross

Triple Cross Title Shot

Contessa gets a call that Harry is dead, but this call was a trap to get all the Protectors.  They are kidnapped and blackmailed under the threat of a timed bomb to “help” a big wig shipping magnate. Harry and Contessa are to drive to Kofax’s estate where he proposes that Harry and Contessa help deliver some jewels to him and stave off any efforts to steal them all while Paul is under threat by the ticking bomb. The jewels are stolen because of a setup triple cross and the Protectors are going to have to find out why.

Personal Synopsis

The creepy John Neville kidnaps The Protectors in this explosive episode. The storyline was meant to send you in every direction to ultimately confuse you into believe nothing. Peter Bowles is back in another episode which does help but the story is not that concise but original.

The Protectors Season 1 Episode 1: 2000 Feet to Die

2000ft to Die Title Shot

The team of Harry Rule, Contessa Caroline and Paul Buchet are the Protectors. They are hired by Freddie Reiwald, a scientist working on perfecting synthetic gold, to find out the reason for the mysterious deaths of all of his colleagues. Freddie wants to fake his own death to stop the killers from trying to get him but this backfires into blackmail. The Protectors will need to stop the skydive before its too late and solve the mystery of the dead science team.

Personal Synopsis

The start of the Protectors is a fun episode. The story about a team of scientist creating synthetic gold is an original concept, one that you could only assume would stir up the criminal possibilities. A nice entry episode but without much background on each of the characters, however was fun to watch. Harvey Hall, an old ITC favourite from shows like The Persuaders, Department S and The Champions, plays the scientist Freddie Reiwald.
