After 7 years of absence it is Norman law that a lord is to be considered dead and his lands will be forfeited. This is the crisis Lady Geraldine Pomfret is in since her husband has been off fighting in the holy war with King Richard. With just one day before the 7th year Lady Pomfret must recruit a substitute to ward off the greedy hands of Le Blond. However Le Blond is skeptical when the imposters pose as Lord Pomfret and he gets the assistance of the Sheriff of Nottingham to identify this trickery.
Personal Synopsis
Greed and the archaic laws of the land ruled by the Normans are on display in this episode. Women in this difficult time were at risk of losing their land due to the lack of their husbands presence. Obviously gender stereotypes and the injustices that can occur in a male ruled society are also clearly written in this episode to speak to the audience. Even now.
